Advocate House

We take the headaches out
of self-publishing

You write the manuscript:
we’ll turn it into a book and get the word out

We offer you complete control over every aspect of the publishing process and work with you to produce your book in the formats right for you:  paperback, hardcover, electronic (e-book) and Print on Demand (POD).

Prejudice against independent authors is rooted in falsely labeled tradition. Going back in history (Chapbooks, Walden, Twain, and a list of hundreds) the famous and best were independent or self-publishers.

Why do we choose to package books for self-publishers rather than go the traditional publishing route of buying mss. and offering royalties?

One of the reasons is, of course, that self-publishers stand to retain 80% of the income from their books rather than netting a mere 10% (+-) in royalties. For them to maximize their income they must participate in the promotion and marketing, and they are more likely to think creatively when they are footing the bills. To help them achieve maximum income, we offer a menu of promotional and marketing services. Not each service offered is appropriate for each book. We advise clients which steps are best for each work. This partnership of author/publisher tends to keep books on bookstore shelves longer, while making use of non-traditional bookselling avenues. It also speeds publication time, often reducing it from the traditional 12-24 months to a mere 3-4 months from the time we receive the finalized manuscript....useful, especially for time-sensitive manuscripts.

What others are saying about Advocate House:

We are very pleased with the results and all the hard work you have done and are continuing to do. Thank you so much for all of it.
-Tina Hyder, Author: There's a Tree in The Meadow

"Advocate House gave me the best price I could have asked for publishing my book, I Remember the Yorktown.  The book was well done.  Everthing I asked to be in my book Patrika made sure was there.   Delivery of the book was as promised. I couldn't have asked for anything better."
-Gene Domienik, Author:  I Remember the Yorktown

As a full-time writer, I'm for "old fashioned" self-publishing all the way. I recommend it for any writer who wants to increase their opportunity to make money and maintain creative control. Self-publishing is also a good way for writers to learn about the publishing business overall. And I see no degradation to any author who chooses this route. In fact, writers who do all of the work themselves and sell their books are very well respected. Kudos to Ms. Vaughn for inspiring writers to see self-publishing as a viable, lucrative alternative. She proves there is light in the writing tunnel.
    -Sonya Carmichael Jones

As a first time writer of a novel I had no idea of how to get my manuscript published or any concept of the ordeal that faces most first time writers.  My association with Advocate House helped me immensely in understanding the process and options that were available to me.  Advocate House made it "simple" in dealing with all the complicated issues with publishing.  I would recommend Advocate House to any writer looking for order in the confusing publishing world.
-Stephen Beeler, Author:  The Firestone Syndrome

Advocate House/A Cappela Publishing provided two novice writers with all the tools to publish their first book, Friday A Dog's Tale. Without the patience, understanding, cooperation expertise of Carol Tornatore, Hyun Hee Park and Patrika Vaughn our dream of publishing a children's book would not have been fulfilled. The Publishing World was a foreign language for us, but these two women used plain English to smooth out the potholes along the way. As former educators we were most pleased with the finished product and have received numerous compliments about the quality of our book especially the book design and illustrations. As we have placed numerous reorders of our book, we have been amazed with the turnaround time for reorders. This has made our sales most efficient. All of this was done long distance! What an operation!
